9800 GTX+

Postby ElKabong on Sun Feb 15, 2009 4:30 pm

So i get the 9800 GTX and new Power Supply, right.

I install the power supply...no probleems.
The 9800 may not fit in my case. HOLY SHIT it is big. Also, it has two 6-pin connectors to it.
I have to get an adapter to get the 2nd 6-pin plugged in...ONLY if it will fit in my case.

I found a 580 Watt PS for 50 bucks. SLI ready, but the cords are really short. I am wondering if, even with an adapter, I can get enough length on them to get it plugged in. I am using almost all the plugs just for teh hard drives and CD/DVD drives I have. I may have to take one of my DVD burners off just to get some plugs open...

I am excited. I want to see the performance difference between my 6600 and the new 9800...

WOO HOO

I can find the adapters. Thank you, Ed.

I am going to the compy store today (if they are open on President's Day)

Mabey tonight I can play L4D and get more than 25 frames a second.
I would like to see what CoD4 looks like while getting 125 FPS, also.
My little 6600 is just getting dated.

I am off to the computer store...see ya later!!

no more video lag on COD4...Wow. I have to relearn how to play the game.
I can see things I never knew were in the game. Textures and softened smoke edges...it is a pretty game now that i can see all that.
I locked it at 125 FPS, but can get 200+

I like my new card. It is so fun to get new toys. Now I need a quad core and new mobo... Off to the computer store again LOL

I just had to cut a little of the plastic case over the card to get it to fit.
The CPU heatsink set screw was protruding just about 1/16 of an inch and would not let the vid card seat all the way into the pcie slot. So i just shaved a bit off the plastic cover and it fit fine.

Pictures would be anti climactic

I just picked up the 1GB version of this card myself. It's the shit, so long as you can fit it in your case. My hardrive seta cords are like hugging the wall to make room for this baby. Half of the card is literally a fan, haha! But it works so well, it's worth the trouble to install.

It is a big bastard.
Mine has a fan cover over it that is about an inch tall. I had to cut just a bit off so I could fit the card in next to my CPU heatsink.

What I didnt like was the 2- 3pin connectors needed. I guess one is for the fan and the other for the card. I had to buy adapters to power it correctly. I am glad I had enough extra sata plugs on my power supply

My mobo wont read the temp of the GPU, but not too big of a deal.
I really like the performance. It blows my 6600 out of the water.
